General Tips
- ๐กThailand takes overstay violations seriously. Penalties include fines of 500 THB per day (capped at 20,000 THB), detention, deportation, and bans ranging from 1 to 10 years depending on the length of overstay.
- ๐กSince May 2025, all arrivals to Thailand must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) at tdac.immigration.go.th before travel. This replaces the old paper TM.6 form.
- ๐กThe 90-day reporting requirement applies to almost all long-stay visa categories. Set a recurring calendar reminder and use the online TM47 reporting system to avoid queuing at Immigration offices.
- ๐กOpen a Thai bank account as soon as possible after arrival. A Bangkok Bank or Kasikorn Bank account simplifies rent payments, visa financial requirements, and everyday transactions. Most branches have English-speaking staff.
- ๐กRegister with the British Embassy in Bangkok so you receive travel advisories and can access emergency consular assistance. The embassy also provides a notarial service for document legalisation.
