Special Tourist Visa (STV)

Introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic and retained as a long-stay tourism option, the STV allows stays of up to 270 days (90 days initial plus two 90-day extensions). It is designed for those who want an extended holiday or trial period before committing to a longer-term visa. Availability varies — check current status before applying.

  • Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) completed before travelCRITICAL
  • Proof of accommodation for the entire stay (rental contract, hotel booking, or property ownership)

  • Health insurance with minimum coverage of USD 100,000

Tips

  • 💡The STV is a useful stepping stone if you want to test living in Thailand for up to 9 months without committing to an education or retirement visa.
  • 💡Keep your financial evidence up to date — Immigration may request updated bank statements when you apply for extensions.
  • 💡Health insurance requirements may change. Always verify the latest requirements on the Thai Embassy website before applying.
