Long-Term Resident Visa (LTR) — Work-From-Thailand
The LTR visa's "Work-From-Thailand Professional" category is Thailand's answer to the global digital nomad visa trend. Application Steps
Check your eligibility category
The LTR visa has four categories: Wealthy Global Citizen, Wealthy Pensioner, Work-From-Thailand Professional, and Highly Skilled Professional. Most digital nomads apply under "Work-From-Thailand Professional".
Prepare your financial evidence
Gather 2 years of tax returns, employment contracts, and bank statements demonstrating the income threshold. All documents must be certified or notarised.
Apply online via the BOI portal
Submit your application through the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) LTR visa portal at ltr.boi.go.th. Upload all required documentation.
Wait for BOI endorsement
The BOI reviews applications within 20 working days. If approved, you will receive an endorsement letter.
Collect your visa
Present the BOI endorsement at the Royal Thai Embassy in London or at a Thai Immigration office if you are already in Thailand.
Obtain your digital work permit
LTR holders receive a digital work permit that allows remote work. Report your address to Immigration annually instead of every 90 days.
Tips
- 💡The income threshold is high ($80k+), but the benefits are substantial: 17% flat income tax, exemption from the 4:1 Thai-to-foreigner hiring ratio, and annual (instead of 90-day) reporting.
- 💡If you do not meet the $80,000 threshold, explore whether a master's degree or qualifying investment can bridge the gap under the lower $40,000 band.
- 💡Processing times have improved since launch but still average 3-6 weeks. Apply well before your intended relocation date.
